About

This will be the fifth edition of the annual TEDxSquareMile event, which is held in the City of London. The theme of the event is ‘The School of Tomorrow’, on which a number of speakers will present talks lasting up to 18 minutes each.

Tickets to the event itself will be made available for sale, and each of the talks will be available online on the TEDx Talks YouTube channel and via this website after the event.

In the spirit of ideas worth Spreading, TED has created the TEDx program. TEDx is a program of independent, local events that are organised separately from the main conference. At TEDx events, live speakers and TED Talks videos combine to promote reflection, discussion and connection. These local, independently organised events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organised TED event.

Individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organised by individuals working together as a team at a local level, but the TED conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program as a whole.

TEDxSquareMile is subject to certain rules and regulations which are stipulated by TED.

About TED

TED is a non-profit organisation which is devoted to the concept of Ideas Worth Spreading. It began 30 years ago in California as a four-day conference, and has since grown to support its mission with multiple initiatives.

Every year there are two TED Conferences which invite the world’s leading thinkers and doers to speak for a duration of 18 minutes or less. Many of these talks are subsequently made available online, for free, at TED.com.

Many of the world’s leading personalities have appeared at the TED conference, including Sir Richard Branson, Bill Gates, Jane Goodall, Nandan Nilekani, Elizabeth Gilbert, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Sal Khan, Daniel Kahneman and Philippe Starck.

The annual TED conference is held in Vancouver, British Columbia, each year in spring, alongside the TEDActive simulcast in nearby Whistler.  The 2015 annual TEDGlobal conference will be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, during the month of October.

TED initiatives

TED’s media initiatives include TED.com (where new TED Talks are posted daily); the Open Translation Project, which provides subtitles, interactive transcripts and translations from volunteers around the globe, and the educational initiative TED-Ed. TED has also established the annual TED prize, which helps translate the visions of exceptional individuals and changemakers into action.

The TED Fellows program helps global innovators to amplify and enhance the impact of their remarkable projects and activities. Finally, the TEDx program, of which TEDxSquareMile is part, supports individuals and groups in their efforts to host local, independent TED-style events around the world.
